Launch Date Slips;
Impacted by Hurricane Hanna

Hurricane Hanna, currently in the Atlantic Ocean, has caused a slip in the GeoEye-1 launch date scheduled for Sept. 4 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. While our satellite is on the pad and the rocket is ready, this delay is actually caused by Hurricane Hanna's projected path along the East Coast of Florida.

Since the U.S. Air Force has declared HURCON 4 (Hurricane Condition 4) in Florida, some certified Delta II launch crew specialists based at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS) have elected not to travel to Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, but instead remain with their families for the duration of the storm. Our launch provider, United Launch Alliance, frequently shifts personnel from coast to coast to support launches. After a thorough review of all options, there was no choice but to postpone the launch.

We will continue to update this page as new information becomes available.
